Open Position: Senior Accounting Manager
Maher Accountancy serves as the accounting department for Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) electricity providers that distribute a cleaner energy alternative to millions of homes and businesses throughout California. As a SeniorAccounting Manager, you will lead the accounting team supporting several independent energy providers.This position is responsible for managing and reviewing day-to-day activities and for compiling monthly and annual financial statements. Due to our rapid growth and the dynamic nature of this new industry, the accounting manager will be pivotal in developing and scaling processes for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information. In this role, you will report directly to the Partner-in-Charge. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in accounting operations and be able to present results at Board of Directors meetings, yet still able to guide junior accountants design and prepare work papers and think through journal entries.
Core Responsibilities
Manage the accounting functions, including revenue, energy cost, accounts payable, cash receipts, payroll, and general ledger.
Lead monthly and annual financial close, including the development of processes and procedures to ensure completeness, timeliness, and accuracy in financial reporting.
Prepare journal entries and the more complex account analyses as part of the close process.
Compile and communicate monthly and periodic reporting, including monthly financial statements, including budget-to-actual reports.
Develop expertise in revenue recognition and cost accounting methodologies for the energy sector, including renewable energy credits, net metering, etc.
Requirements
Ten years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting experience is highly desired
Bachelor’s degree required MBA or CPA field a plus.
Strong analytical and accounting skills
Strong understanding of US GAAP
Attention to detail, professionalism, and accountability
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within reasonably established timelines
Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) up and down the client organizations, from staff to department heads
Experience managing staff
Proficiency in Excel (i.e., such as the use of INDEX, MATCH, VLOOKUP, and SUMIFS)
Familiarity with B.I. tools (Tableau, PowerBI, SQL, etc.)
Ability to learn new systems quickly
Authorized to work in the U.S.
